Spice Girl pulls concert in Poland over ‘issues’

Former Spice Girl Melanie Chisholm pulled out of a New Year’s Eve concert in Poland due to “issues that have been brought to my attention”.

The 48-year-old singer had been due to perform for the Polish state broadcaster TVP last week, but ahead of the show, she released a statement saying she was cancelling the engagement “in light of some issues” that “do not align with the communities” she supports.

Although Melanie did not specify her reasons, she was praised by members of the LGBTQ+ community, of which she has been a long-time ally. Same-sex marriage is not recognised in Poland and there is some hostility towards the community. The broadcaster said she had withdrawn “under the pressure of online comments”.
