Loose Women star Nadia Sawalha speaks exclusively to HELLO! about navigating life with ADHD following her shock diagnosis
INTERVIEW: KATE LOCKETT
Last year, at the age of 58, Nadia Sawalha was diagnosed with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) after a lifetime of unexplained symptoms. The presenter and YouTuber tells hello!: “My husband Mark was diagnosed first, then my kids said: ‘Mum, wait – you’re the one we always say has got ADHD!’”
Here, the mum of two speaks about how the diagnosis has made sense of her symptoms and encouraged her to go easy on herself.
Nadia, why did you seek a diagnosis of ADHD?
“I’d been talking to our editor at Loose Women about it – procrastinating, classic ADHD. And even though I was fully expecting to be diagnosed, I was taken aback and tearful when they told me. I cried because I didn’t think I was worthy of having ADHD, because I’m so used to saying things like: ‘I’m lazy. I’m stupid.’ I was just so relieved to know.”
