Stage and TV actor passes away aged 90
Timothy West has died peacefully in his sleep “with his friends and family at the end”, his family have said.
The actor, who was married to Fawlty Towers star Prunella Scales for 61 years, was known for his theatre roles and appearances in TV shows including Coronation Street, EastEnders and Gentleman Jack. In 1984 he was awarded a CBE for services to drama. He also presented Great Canal Journeys with Prunella, who suffers from dementia and who he was caring for until his death.
His children Juliet, Samuel and Joseph said in a statement: “After a long and extraordinary life on and off the stage, our darling father Timothy West died peacefully in his sleep yesterday evening. He was 90 years old. All of us will miss him terribly.”
