SPARROW ITALIA
Hidden away in a side street in London’s smartest postcode, the Mayfair branch of upmarket Italian restaurant mini-chain Sparrow Italia is the ideal spot for that special celebration.
From the muted elegance of the interiors – the downstairs bar area is like something from Mad Men – to the simple but expertly cooked dishes, everything smacks of class.
Begin with a signature cocktail bearing the name of an Italian region, then allow the attentive and friendly (but always supremely professional) staff to guide you through the menu. It’s unfussy but packed with tantalising choices, so their help is definitely appreciated – as is that of the sommelier when considering the ideal drink to accompany your meal.
Our highlights were a spectacularly creamy burrata, sea bass that melted in the mouth and lush desserts packed with flavour as well as being a delight to the eye.
A digestivo in the bar afterwards is always a good choice – and if you’re looking for the whole retro-chic experience, there’s even a wood-panelled cigar lounge.
