When clothes rationing came into force in Britain in June 1941, it was something of a shock. With fabric prioritised for military uniforms and the output of many clothing factories redirected for the war effort, a ‘Make Do and Mend’ campaign was launched to encourage people to repair and upcycle their existing clothing.
