FROM THE EDITOR

With suitable building plots increasingly hard to come by, self-builders up and down the country are looking for alternative ways to create their dream home. Hayley and Stephan did just that when they bought a derelict 1960s bungalow with the view to transforming it into a spacious family home. Reimagining the dated single-storey property into a contemporary, eco-friendly home is an inspiring example of what can be achieved when updating our dated housing stock. It was a hit with the judges in our awards, too. Judge Sian Astley described it as “a light-filled, joyous example” of the trend for maximising the potential of bungalow plots. See the impressive results for yourself on page 36.
