The 2024 season is well under way, and it’s shaping up to be a pretty exciting one. May sees the 75th anniversary of Badminton, and thanks to it being an Olympic year, we can look forward to a stellar start list as riders hope to catch selectors’ eyes. In this issue, we learn more about the event’s humble beginnings and why it’s so special.

While the fields are still recovering from the wettest February in 190 years, it’s been the perfect weather for testing lightweight coats (every cloud and all that). Testing kit is something we take really seriously at Horse&Rider – for example, did you know items go on a long test – usually three months, but often a lot more – to ensure they’re durable and will perform well for you? The Horse&Rider team have more horses between us than we’d care to admit to, so we know only too well that juggling a full-time job and a horse on DIY livery, trying to have some sort of social life and keeping up with family commitments makes finding the time to devote to exercise can be really tricky. Assistant Editor Sarah spent an enlightening afternoon with passionate rider and experienced personal trainer, Jo Collins, to find out how we can hone our own fitness around our daily yard routines and without any specialist equipment, too.
