We’ve come a long way since the days of the ‘stiff upper lip’ where, in Britain at least, expressing yourself and openly admitting that you’re not in a good frame of mind was considered a sign of weakness or poor form – especially for men. Today, mental health professionals recognise a range of conditions, disorders and neurodivergence, although there are common themes: too much stress, whatever the stimulus, can lead to a mental and physical breakdown.
