The place to come for key terms made easy
Control Centre
An easy-to-access panel of essential settings for Mac and iOS. You can access it on iOS by swiping up or down from the top/ bottom of the screen, (depending on your device) and in macOS Big Sur it resides to the right of the menu bar.
Screen Time
This is a relatively new feature on Mac and iOS designed to make users aware of how much time we are spending on our devices. Located in System Preferences or the iOS Settings app, Screen Time monitors how long you spend in apps and allows you to impose restrictions.
Spoken Content
This is the new name for the Speech Accessibility settings in your Mac’s System Preferences. In macOS Big Sur, these settings include the new ‘Speak typing feedback’ option that echoes every character you type.
macOS System Preferences
I have just updated to macOS Big Sur and was wondering how I can edit my Control Centre, like on iOS? Andre LeClerc
1 Find the settings
Unlike in iOS, you are currently quite restricted in what can be displayed in Control Centre. Go to System Preferences>Dock & Menu Bar and you will see ‘Control Centre’ in the sidebar.
