How to produce reverse reverb effects
Force a trailing reverb effect to actually pre-empt the track audio and perform a distinctive, advanced studio trick
Reverb and echo are important effects for adding space and atmosphere to our tracks. Both work traditionally by ‘trailing’ or following the audio signal for a certain duration. So any sound will have a certain amount of reverb or echo come after it. However, it didn’t take long for studio pioneers like The Beatles to quite literally flip this on its head. How would it sound if the reverb came BEFORE the original source? As it turns out, pretty cool. You can hear it on their recordings like “Tomorrow Never Knows” or “I’m Only Sleeping”. In this guide, we’ll suggest a few ways to achieve this effect in GarageBand.
