Alex J. Craig reviews See Them Run, In Plain Sight and Lies to Tell

Marion Todd

It’s not often that a reviewer gets the chance to review three books by one author that have been released in print more or less at the same time. But Marion Todd’s runaway success in the eBook market has prompted her publishers, Canelo, to bring her first three books, See Them Run, In Plain Sight and Lies to Tell into existence as regular paperbacks. See Them Run was shortlisted for the McIlvanney Debut Award at this year’s Bloody Scotland (online) crime writing festival.

The stories feature Detective Inspector Clare Mackay. At the start of See Them Run she has just moved to St. Andrews from Glasgow after an incident in which she shot dead a youth brandishing an imitation pistol. She was exonerated of any wrongdoing in this event, but it has left a cloud hanging over her career, in her own mind as well as those of her colleagues. She’s also split up with her lawyer partner, as a result of the lack of support he showed during the shooting inquiry. So she’s hoping to make a new start in North East Fife. And the challenges come fast and furious.
