A Problem Shared
Got a problem? DR RANJ SINGH and WAYNE DHESI are here to offer their advice...
ROB, SOUTH LONDON
→ RANJ: Breaking up with a long-term partner can be intensely emotional and difficult for both parties involved, regardless of whether someone was at fault or not.
Some people are able to move on while others struggle and may behave less than ideally. It’s no surprise that if your ex wasn’t ready to end the relationship, he may still have some unresolved feelings and could be struggling coming to terms with it.
Although it may be a nuisance or come across as annoying, remember that his behaviour may be because he’s not coping with what has happened.
However, that doesn’t mean that he’s allowed to cause problems for you. If you have decided that what you had is well and truly over, he needs to try to understand and respect that decision.
It sounds as if you both need closure and that means sitting down and having an open conversation but not in an argumentative or confrontational way — come at it as someone trying to understand what he is going through.
