Since I actually started working in the Attitude office, I’ve discovered how passionate, hardworking and talented the team behind the magazine are. It’s also been interesting to meet so many gay men eager to share their opinions as readers of Attitude. I’ve been touched by the amount of goodwill towards the magazine and by just how much emotion so many readers invest in their relationship with it.
Lots of older readers talk about Attitude being like a lifeline to them when they were younger, maybe when they were suffering in the closet or struggling to accept their sexuality. To me it’s been more like a gay friend — and that’s the role I’d like it to play for all of you. A slightly older friend maybe, and one with a bit more experience.
I see Attitude as the kind of friend who offers life advice in an informed, non-judgmental way. He recommends great books to read or films he’s seen or music he’s dying for you to discover. He introduces you to hot men he thinks you’ll fancy — a particularly important role, as far as I’m concerned. And, perhaps even more importantly, he makes you laugh. And after the year we’ve just had, we all need a good laugh.
