LADIES first was the appropriate theme as Claressa Shields and Christina Hammer set a shining example for the men about the way things should be done.

A fight of this magnitude, where both undefeated women were unifying the four titles (Shields’ IBF, WBC, and WBA middleweight belts; Hammer’s WBO strap), could have waited a bit longer and been promoted into a lucrative pay-perview event - but thankfully the urgency to prove who was the best prevailed.

And it was Shields who by virtue of a unanimous 10-round decision over Hammer at Boardwalk Hall (Salita Promotions), can now rightfully call herself the face of women’s boxing.
