Cage & Aviary Birds  |  No.5806 Chaffinch Charm
IF BREEDING BIRDS were a doddle, fanciers would
soon become bored with it and move on to something
more challenging. Few, probably, would disagree with
that, so let’s put it this way: breeding birds is not a
doddle and every year brings new frustrations and
disappointments. That’s not quite so palatable, is it?
Perhaps Cage & Aviary Birds is sometimes guilty of
putting too rosy a gloss on birdkeeping; offering a smiley face with never a frown. Still, it’s natural that most of us want to write about our successes. The fact is that it takes a certain calibre of fancier to state in public that they are having problems. They’re the ones who are not bothered by people saying things like: “You’ve got a lot of [insert as
appropriate]? Surely you worked that one out ages ago!”
If your focus is on the birds, and trying to improve them year by year,
you’re not so worried about trying to prove yourself all the time. It’s called maturity.
