Check if photos were edited using AI
Over the past year, Google Photos has added several AI tools to its mobile app. These include Magic Eraser, which deletes unwanted people from shots, and Magic Editor, which moves and resizes elements, and adjusts the background and lighting.
The results achieved by these tools are so impressive you may have forgotten you used AI to edit a photo – or fail to spot when a picture someone shares with you has been enhanced with AI. To improve transparency, and to comply with its own ‘AI principles’ (www.snipca.com/53221), Google now tells you when AI edits have been applied in Google Photos.
Swipe up on an image to see its Details panel and, if it has been AI-enhanced, you’ll see a new ‘AI info’ section below the ‘Backed up’ details (see screenshot below). This will include the information: ‘Credit: Edited with Google AI’ and ‘Digital source type: Edited using generative AI’.
Another addition to Google Photos has nothing to do with AI, but is arguably just as useful. It lets you flip photos with a single tap, so that left-facing subjects look right instead – and vice versa.
