Waves factory Echo Cat £78
If you’re after classic echo sounds then a tape delay is a must. Let’s see what this cat has to offer…
Majorcan developer Wavesfactory produce a focused range of Kontakt libraries and plugins, and the latest addition to the latter category is Echo Cat (VST, VST3, AU, AAX). Based closely on the Watkins Copicat tape effect, Echo Cat aims to deliver this three-head tape echo in all its glory but updated for the contemporary DAW user.
To that end, the main resizable interface window, which features the basic controls (Input, Sustain, Mix and Output) is supported by four additional pages of controls. These include one page (Heads) dedicated to level, panning and delay time (this can be tempo-synced or freely set from 25ms to 1199ms for each head). Here you’ll also find ‘per head’ high and low-pass filters. There’s also a Master page where you’ll find global tone and filtering controls, output stereo balance (presented as mid and sides levels), and a global ducking option.
