UKCF Surveillance Reconnaissance Squadron Group Enhancing UKCF Capabilities in Extreme Environments

Surveillance Reconnaissance Squadron Group of the UK Commando Force (UKCF) recently undertook a Winter Deployment 25 (WD25) in Norway. The deployment focused on Combined and Joint Special-to-Arms (StA) extreme cold weather (ECW) capability development alongside partners across northern Norway. It also provided a fantastic opportunity to showcase the UK’s premier extreme terrain and climatic infiltration and special reconnaissance capabilities, aligning with UKCF strategic objectives to enhance High North resilience through warfighting capability demonstrations and NATO partnerships.

Brigade Patrol Troop (BPT) activities during WD25 included spec mobility and Vertical Access training, mission rehearsals, live ranges and integration with NorSOF partners. They engaged in showcasing warfighting capabilities, contributing to NorSOF StA training and hosting NATO partners.

By participating in various training exercises and validations, BPT played a crucial role in deterring adversarial threats and strengthening bilateral resilience in the High North.

Scout Sniper Cell (ScS) focused on advancing the UK’s Advance Force Scout Sniping capability in an ECW environment, leading a cross-UKCF concentration at the Mauken Range Complex in Troms, Norway. They conducted StA, trialling new equipment for undetected infiltration and precision targeting. This effort aimed to enhance the UKCF’s offerings to NATO and refine tactics for operating in extreme conditions.
