MULTITASKERS ARE MORE OPEN TO POLITICAL IDEAS
Extreme political views could be influenced by the same brain patterns that govern our ability to switch between tasks – so says new research conducted by the University of Cambridge. Over 700 US citizens completed three psychological tests, including a word association game, a card-sorting test with changing rules and an imagination-based task. Participants were also asked to score their feelings towards divisive social and economic issues and identify the overlap between their personal identity and two opposing political parties. The findings showed that those who sided strongly with one political party struggled with the changing rules in the psychological tests, whereas those who switched between tasks easily tended to have a more fluid political identity.
