We took our home back to its period roots

Buying a house was not an option for textile designer, Amy Buchanan, so she’s put her mark on the family home, including her own shed!

Welcome to my home

A bit about me

I‘m Amy Buchanan, 24, a textile designer (bertyb.co.uk). I live with my parents, Anne and Graham, and my sister, Lucy.

Where i live

We live in a Victorian semi-detached villa in Fife, on the east coast of Scotland, which has three bedrooms and a large shed which I use as my studio.

What i wanted to change

We wanted to change the ultra-modern and very dark décor – it was all very out of context with the house’s cottage style.

How i made it my own

We stripped all the floors and painted every room, and refitted the kitchen and bathroom.

About Homestyle

Shhh! Did you know that in the mag world we start working on Christmas in July? But even after months of testing Prosecco (it’s a hard life!), rubbing shoulders with Santa (honestly...) and decking the halls with all things festive, we at HomeStyle headquarters still can’t get enough of this time of year. And what’s not to love? The whole team have been shopping up a seasonal storm to find you the most incredible bargains and savviest ideas out there to make this year the best Christmas you’ll ever have – and all without breaking that all-important budget. Worried about gifts? We’ve got it covered, simply turn to page 68 – there’s something for everyone. Concerned about cooking? Relax and turn to page 76 for an utterly indulgent, but seriously easy, Christmas dinner for two, all designed so you can throw it in the oven and watch your favourite Yuletide film while it gently cooks away. Need ideas to festoon the house? This issue is jam-packed with twinkling lights, rich ribbons and shimmering stars to solve every decorating dilemma, and if you don’t feel all warm and Christmassy yet, head to page 82 for our tried and tested ideas for Advent. Merry Christmas, everyone!
