Peering behind the veil
© ESA/Hubble & NASA, R. Sankrit
Drifting in the void of space around 2,400 light years away is an ethereal cloud of stardust called the Veil Nebula. Hubble captured this view of the gossamer-like nebula using data from its Wide Field Camera 3 in 2021. This instrument uses different filters to observe emissions of hydrogen, sulphur and oxygen atoms released by the supernova event that created the Veil Nebula around 10,000 years ago.
