The Verdict
For a change, with this Roundup it wasn’t all that difficult to determine the first, second and last place finishers. The real contest thus was between the third and fourth.
While Aladin Sky Atlas is certain useful and informative, if we had to describe it in one word, we’d call it unenergetic. It somehow lacks the life that makes Stellarium and KStars so much fun to work with. Couple the overwhelming appearance with the lack of documentation and you have a project that’s unlikely to inspire novice space or astronomy enthusiasts. Yet we’re confident that with proper documentation, the project can become a more widely accessible learning tool.
