Kernel Watch
Jon Masters summarises the latest happenings in the Linux kernel, so you don’t have to.
Linus Torvalds announced the release of Linux 5.10, noting that things had calmed down and “nothing makes me go, ‘We need another week.’ Things look fairly normal.” With the release of 5.10 comes the “merge window” (period of time during which disruptive changes are accepted) for that will be 5.11. This usually runs for several weeks at the beginning of a cycle, but Linus noted that the timing of the 5.10 release around the holidays meant that he would be especially strict about only accepting patches that were ready to merge.
