WE’VE ALWAYS BEEN KEEN to explore the UK, and having three children and a limited budget now makes it a necessary reality. Cornwall has long been a favourite, and is particularly lovely off-season, when you can have the wild landscape mostly to yourself. The photo above was taken on a windy coastal walk somewhere between Sennen and Land’s End, and shows me with my sons, Freddie (7), Henry (5) and Edward (1). The walk was only about a three-mile round trip, but probably felt much longer if you’re only two feet tall. The journey was one of highs and lows, much like family life itself: we were all intrigued by the shipwreck washed up in a rocky inlet, but none of us will recall Henry’s clifftop baby-wipe bath (after he face-planted into a muddy puddle) with equal fondness.
