The Magpie Salute

Tipping their hat to a British superstition, former Black Crowe Rich Robinson’s new band The Magpie Salute (mostly Crowes alumni) have served up something quite special here. Nine of the 10 tracks are covers recorded live in the studio in front of an audience. It’s a diverse selection of well-chosen songs, including the Crowes’ What Is Home and Wiser Time. Nothing unexpected, you might say, but their take on vibraphone jazzer Bobby Hutcherson’s Goin’ Down South is splendid.
