Journeyman guitarist’s first solo album in almost two decades.
Andy Fairweather Low never intended to make a follow-up to 2006’s Sweet Soulful Music, but an invite to record for free at Rockfield studios was too good to turn down. Over three weeks the singer/guitarist put together Flang Dang, writing, producing and playing everything except the drums, which were provided by the Low Riders’ Paul Beavis. For Fairweather Low it brings him full circle – he first recorded at Rockfield in 1965 with one of his early beat groups, The Sect Maniacs – and Flang Dang’s 11 songs are upbeat, buoyant and full of nagging choruses about fighting the good fight, keeping the faith and accentuating the positives. Musically, they roll and tumble through rockabilly, country, R&B and blues; enthusiastic and crackling with energy throughout.
