PORAC, PHILIPPINES
Emergency workers help a victim after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake struck the northern Philippines on April 22, causing buildings to collapse. Rescuers toiled with heavy machinery and their bare hands throughout the night to recover survivors and bodies, only to have an even stronger, 6.4 magnitude earthquake strike the country’s central region the following day. As of press time, at least 16 people had died in the pair of disasters.
