Start the new year off by learning new skills in Betty Croke’s Mushroom Village series quilt. It will combine several different techniques over the next six issues. Our cover quilt features the lovely bright Ombré Geese quilt which is foundation pieced. If you prefer more traditional piecing, you will love Chris Franses’ Black and White Tiles Quilt. How many of us have been inspired by tiled floors everywhere we go? The Handmade Spools Quilt combines delightful haberdashery inspired fabrics with the traditional Spools block while the Jigsaw Quilt involves simple piecing and appliqué. Finally I think no sewing room is complete without a Stitchin’ Time Cushion!

I was lucky enough to escape the computer for the day to visit Kaffe Fassett’s Colour at Mottisfont exhibition in Hampshire, while at the opposite end of the country, Joanna O’Neill reviews the Scottish Quilt Championships held recently in Edinburgh. We have an update on the Jane Austen Community Quilt Project, find out more about longarm quilting with Greenhill and discover the story behind a patchwork skirt in A Splash of Colour in a Bleak Grey World. Sandie Lush tells us about her First and Last quilts and we meet Newent Quilters in Introducing.
