A Stovax Stockton stove creates a warm welcome as you enter through the front door into the cosy living room. The previous owners had used the sitting room as a dining room, but the Buttrums switched these so that the living room would make the most of the French doors that open out onto the garden. The beams were cleaned by Beaming Restorations and the leather sofa and armchair were sourced through Ebay. Emily made the curtains from Porter & Stone’s Balmoral fabric, and the cushions are from Dunelm
For Emily Buttrum and her family, the countryside is the place to be. Set in a Northamptonshire village on the edge of the Cotswolds, the 17th-century farmhouse they call home is on a one-way lane that winds around the back of the village to the church and then into open countryside - perfectly situated for outdoor adventures. ‘We have a good sense of community here and it’s just a short walk down the lane into fields, tracks and footpaths,’ says Emily. ‘Early-morning walks with a packed breakfast are a family favourite in summer; it’s a good time to spot deer and other local wildlife.’ Delighting in country living whatever the season, the Buttrums love returning from long winter walks to the warmth of the log-burner, and on a spring morning nothing brings Emily more joy than catching a glimpse of the robins and blue tits through the pantry window.
