Shooting in black and white shows how the colours in your photos are represented as various shades of grey
BRIAN SAYS… You can always make a colour image black and white while editing, and it’s a lot of work to re-colour a mono JPEG image from the camera. But if you shoot Raw, selecting monochrome Picture Style means you see a black and white preview image on the camera LCD. One of the keys of a good mono is contrast, sometimes contrasting colours are similar in brightness, so won’t work as well. Using the mono Picture Style ensures you’ll see that. With the filter effects setting your shots will look like you used that colour filter on the lens. For black skies and white clouds, use a yellow filter, for pale skin tones and darker eyes use an orange or red filter.
