When it comes to editing your photos, one of the most important things to consider is how you‘d like different areas of the frame to look. In a landscape, for example, you can enhance the tones in a sky, pull out textures in rocks, tease out hidden shadow detail, claw back blown highlights, or boost the colors in foliage. One option is to make universal changes to your image to achieve this – perhaps by adjusting the Shadows and Highlights sliders in Camera Raw or Lightroom. But often the better option is to isolate a specific area, then make local adjustments that are tailored specifically to it.
