Yoshio Sakamoto was always keen to revisit the simple stealth mechanics found in Metroid Fusion but could never find the right fit. After trying for years (the DNA of Dread goes back as far as 2005 and Nintendo’s DS handheld) he finally cracked it with the help of Mercury Steam.
Metroid Dread sees the tables turned once again on Samus Aran as she’s sporadically hunted down by dangerous EMMI robots that can kill her upon contact if she’s not careful. Needless to say there’s a real tension to exploring the planet ZDR, with Samus having to reduce the sound she makes, rely on her new camouflage and Aeion abilities and generally do what she can to slip past the menacing metallic guardians.
