In what was the first strike at a UK port since 1989, staff from the union Unite at the Port of Felixstowe began an eight-day walk-out on 21 August. Some 1,900 workers out of 2,550 at Felixstowe were involved in the industrial action. Despite C.K. Hutchinson Holdings, the terminal operator, offering a seven per cent pay rise, plus a £500 bonus, 1,900 members of the Unite union walked out, as they are seeking a ten per cent rise. The strike ended with noagreement.
