This month our playful jaunt across the globe takes a slightly different turn. Firstly, we are visiting a country I had previously never heard of. In fact, I only accidentally stumbled across the Republic of Kiribati whilst randomly flicking around Google Maps - a pastime I engage with more often than what would be considered normal. Probably. Secondly, our focus is less on the evidence of the clear globalisation of the modern tabletop hobby as we know it, and more on how a nation engages with a select few games whilst residing largely outside of globalisation’s transfer of mass-marketed goods and culture.
Consequently, we’ll be taking a look at fewer games than usual, and shying away from highlighting the various designers, publishers, and establishments we would usually strive to cover in this column. Nonetheless, an analysis leaning more towards the micro than the macro gives valuable insight into how particular circumstances affect the ways people interact with the hobby.
