The First Rays of Sun,
watercolour,
91/23161/4in
(24341cm).
I
love
catching
the
early
morning
sun
over
a
snowy
scene
when
it
just
lights
up
the
tops
of
the
hedgerows
and
a
few
shafts
of
warmth
across
the
snowy
fields.
I
built
up
the
tones
in
the
foreground
fields
with
a
succession
of
transparent
blue
washes,
adding
violet
and
rose
madder
to
the
mixes
but
keeping
them
light
and
airy.
The
sunlit
hedgerows
had
Indian
yellow
and
orange
in
the
highlights
and
madder
brown
and
cobalt
blue
in
the
darks

A Cold Walk down Ruxton Lane,
watercolour,
141/23181/2in
(37347cm).
A
few
tractors
had
made
the
early
outing
and
left
their
tracks
in
the
lane.
The
cool
shadow
on
the
distant
hill
was
a
foil
to
the
sunlit,
snow-covered
tops
of
the
hedgerows.
I
used
spatter
in
the
hedgerows
