Traction  |  Nov/Dec 2023
We start this issue of TRACTION with a visit to Lancaster Station in 1992, and see the wide variety of motive power on view. We continue the story of a railwayman’s career at Bristol Bath Road depot in the late 1970s and early 1980s during a period of great change. There’s a look at the Skipton to Grassington line, with photos of passenger specials. Another article about a branch line features the route from Haltwhistle to Alston. A senior railwayman recalls some of the difficult introducing tilting trains onto Britain’s railways. Our new series of articles about freight train terminals continues looking at those dealing with household refuse from Britain’s large cities. We have two features featuring locomotives. The first looks at the life of English Electric Type 3 No. D6803 and the many changes that the locomotive experienced over the years. We also continue the story of the attempt to recreate No.10000, the first main line Co-Co diesel built by the LMS. In TRACTION MODELLING the featured layout is Tamcester. It’s an N Gauge layout based on the electrified West Coast Main Line.
