Actually I have to be honest and say the above is not true at all as much as I sometimes wish it was.
In fact when I was a little boy (not girl) I first-off wanted to be Spiderman, not a princess - as I’ve mentioned before in previous magazine articles, and I even collected Spiderman comics (which I still have now). However it wasn’t long before I wanted to be characters from Japanese-made kids teleshows “Battle of the Planets” and “Starfleet”, and this time it was the female characters I was drawn to, and their costumes, particularity “Princess” from Battle of the Planets, as she was sexy, had a great costume - and also rode a motorbike. (Even to this day I would love her costume, but as yet, I’ve not found one for sale anywhere - nor am I skilled enough to make my own version).
Back then, I had no idea that dressing as characters from films and TV show’s was actually a thing, or that it was called “Cosplay” as it wasn’t big in the UK then like it is now.
It wasn’t until I was an adult that I finally started to dress in some of my favourite female character’s costumes, and by this time, I was already also dressing as a girl behind closed doors and at dressing services. What I was doing as a boy dressing as a girl was in fact known as “Crossplay” not “Cosplay”.
