NORM SNEAD

S elected second overall in the 1961 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins – three picks ahead of Mike Ditka –quarterback Norm Snead began his 17-year NFL career that saw him earn four Pro Bowl berths while playing for five teams – most notably with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Washington traded Snead and defensive back Claude Crabb to the Eagles in 1964 for quarterback Sonny Jurgensen. At the time, Snead was coming off back-to-back Pro Bowl seasons. In his second season in Philly, he earned the third of his four Pro Bowls. He also led the Eagles to the playoffs in 1965, the team’s first playoff berth in five seasons.

Snead retired in 1977, having passed for more than 30,700 yards, 196 touchdowns and added 23 rushing touchdowns over his career. In addition to Washington and Philadelphia, Snead also had stints with Minnesota, the New York Giants and the San Francisco 49ers.
