Poetry workshop: Time to write
Alison Chisholm explores a subscriber’s poem that celebrates discovering the creative process
For each of us there is a time of discovery when we realise that writing is the path to follow. It may be a lightbulb moment, a flash of inspiration that reveals the truth in an instant. It may be a growing realisation. It may be a decision to try something new, with the accompanying revelation that the new activity should be writing.
The poem we are looking at this month acknowledges the time in his life when its author started to write, and also looks at the time of day when the writing stimulus begins. On another level, as the title hints, this is a celebration of grasping the perfect moment and taking possession of it.
TIME TO CREATE
Abstracted nights touched with words An unqualified mind that’s full of life Not too sure if they’re nouns or verbs Sensitive thoughts for a sleeping wife.
My priceless time unreserved of sleep In surreal trances that could never last Allow careless moments time to weep In guilty thoughts of a frustrated past.
The past has gone, I welcome the now An adventurous mind deserves no less A branch of pros with unbending brow The chance to learn, I must now caress.
