HOLIDAY HOPES!
Brochures arrive amidst the post
Enticing us, to sand and sea
They advertise a perfect host
Promoting a fantastic fee!
The details of the small print
Are what we should inspect
The final fee, could make us skint
A fact, they don’t respect!
Waiting times at airports
Can drive us really mad
They cannot make the time too short
Due to disasters that they’ve had!
Terrorist bombers are always quoted
No plane or place secure
Some efforts have been thwarted
Thanks to security, that’s for sure!
The brochure says, the sun will shine
On beaches in the Med.
Alfresco, is the way to dine
With a carafe of fine red!
No insect bites are mentioned
Nor effects of too much sun
Our bodies aren’t conditioned
To cope with so much fun!
We don’t need to have a passport
To visit Llangorse lake
We can brag about the fish we caught
Plus, enjoy a warm Welsh cake!
Sometimes it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly where a poem started. Often an idea niggles somewhere in the mind, and gradually accumulates a network of connected thoughts that eventually emerge as a poem. At other – wonderful – times, a flash of inspiration gives the poem to you in its entirety. Occasionally two factors spark together, and a complete poem shakes itself free.
