Quite a few of the new or more successful zines are beginning to pay. Here’s a selection of them with payments ranging from token to pro.
Arsenika is a new quarterly dedicated ‘to uplifting marginalised voices’, publishing speculative poetry and flash fiction. It publishes online and as a pdf, epub, and in mobi formats. Editor in chief, S Qiouyi Lu, ‘looks for gorgeous, emotional writing: poetry that shimmers with multiple layers of meaning, prose that explores and interrogates’.
Send unpublished original fiction and poetry of no more than 1,000 words. The next submission period is 1 May-15 June.
Submit rtf, doc, and docx files by email with Submission: and title in the subject line, to: submissions@arsenika.ink
Use standard manuscript format but format poetry exactly as you want to see it online. No reprints or simultaneous submissions and limit multiple submissions to ‘no more than two flash fiction pieces and five poems in the submissions queue at a time’.
