Prologue
Andrew loved the beach.1
Even the shingle beach that sat like a rocky fingernail on the edge of Tatley.2 The fact that there was very little sand3 didn’t bother him,4 what he loved was the sea life,5 even those tiny little bugs that swum at the bottom of rock pools.6
His parents worried about him.7 At seventeen,8 he kept himself to himself9 and had no interest in the things other kids his age seemed to be obsessed over10 although Andrew didn’t understand why they were so bothered.11 If he was going out every night getting drunk on sugary alcohol would they relax?12
He didn’t think so.13
On the edge of his vision something flickered.14
Looking towards the source15 he saw what looked like a fossil.16 Yet it seemed to be intermittently glowing.17
Andrew18 swung his pack off his shoulder and rested it on the rocks.19 He rooted around20 for his magnifying glass,21 he needed a proper look at this.22
