IN THE GREENHOUSE

WHAT TO DO IN APRIL

■ Vegetables raised from seed in a frost-free greenhouse can be moved to the polytunnel to grow on, once the seedlings are strong and established.

■ Thin rows of seedlings of spring onions, beetroot and carrots growing in the borders when they are large enough to handle.

■ Parsley can sometimes be tricky to germinate outside, so sow the seeds in cell trays, keep the compost moist and stand the trays in the greenhouse. This way they germinate much faster than in the garden.

■ There is still time to buy plug plants of many vegetables that can be potted and grown on in the greenhouse.

■ Continue to prick out tomato and pepper seedlings into small pots of compost and grow them on in a warm greenhouse
