CUCUMBERS, BROCCOLI AND COMPANION PLANTING
Steve has started to sow some of his tender veg, the first being some heirloom cucumbers called ‘Lemon’ (aka ‘Crystal Lemon’), a small round yellow cucumber with a lovely flavour that he first grew a few years ago. Sowing cucumbers in batches about a month apart ensures continuity of supply.
Emma has been picking some purple sprouting broccoli which is just starting to flourish. It is such a treat when there is very little else to harvest on the plot. However, it is in the ground for such a long time so you need the space for it. April and May are good months to get some seeds sown in pots or cell trays for planting out in June or July. An ideal crop plant to follow your potatoes after harvesting.
