PLANT OUT THE POLYTUNNEL
Finally, it is time to plant out all of the tender summer crops into the polytunnel or greenhouse. Weeks of tenderly nurturing tomatoes, melons, cucumbers, aubergines, chillies and other frost-sensitive edibles means there are trays filled with healthy looking potted plants, all ready to go into the ground or larger pots.
Before planting, lift any remaining overwintering crops that have finished, remove weeds and mulch the beds with some compost.
I always lay out the pots in the polytunnel first. In this way I can make sure that everything is correctly spaced and will fit in. This gives me a chance to rearrange things before planting commences. When the main plants are in I interplant them with basil, edible flowers and shiso to make the most of the growing space.
