Saints were 20-2 up at one point, but then had to withstand a barrage of pressure from their opponents who, at one stage, cut the deficit to 21-18 and looked like they would take the lead before Grace’s crucial interception.
Grace’s effort made it 27-18 and Lachlan Coote had just enough time to rub salt into the wounds to make it an almost identical scoreline to last week’s 34-18 meeting between the two sides – albeit in completely different fashion.
Hull were dealt the blow of Joe Cator being unavailable after he left the field last week with a calf strain, but Tommy Makinson and Grace came back in for Saints on the wings.
Mark Percival was sidelined with a hamstring problem, and Dan Norman was named on the Saints bench for his first appearance for the club.
