WARRINGTON WOLVES’ wobble became a rut as they were outfought and outthought in suffering a third consecutive defeat at the hands of Wakefield Trinity.
Daryl Powell’s tenure began well enough with three wins from three before losses to last year’s top two, Catalans Dragons and St Helens, but this performance was by far the most concerning of them all so far.
They were second-best in the middle for most of the game, lacked imagination and cohesion in attack, and poorest of all was the defence which Powell himself admitted was “embarrassing” for the final two tries which sealed Wakefield’s success after a nip-and-tuck first hour where this entertaining contest could have gone either way.
“I think we started well, but we get rattled so quickly and almost lose everything,” said the Wolves boss as he searched for answers after the game.
