THINGS TO DO THIS MONTH

Sketch for survival
The new Sketch for Survival Introducing Competition invites entries from all amateur artists over the age of 16. The competition is part of an initiative by the UK conservation charity, Explorers against Extinction, which aims to raise awareness about the illegal wildlife trade and its threat of species extinction.
For several years, invited professional wildlife artists and celebrities have donated original artworks of endangered species to Sketch for Survival for a touring exhibition and sale, with profits given to nominated projects. For the first time this year the exhibition will include amateur work, with 100 of the artworks selected from the SFS Introducing Competition shown alongside. Leisure Painter will present the People Choice Award, selected from the exhibition and by online visitors voting for their favourite artwork. The winning artist will be profiled in Leisure Painter and presented with a £500 voucher from Great Art. The Artist magazine will be presenting a special award to the artist who best captures the spirit of the SFS campaign. The closing date for entries is 19 July.
