"In January Elastic announced a software licencing change. This means that search project Elasticsearch and data visualisation tool Kibana would no longer be available under Apache 2.0 and instead will be under Elastic’s own license and MongoDB’s Server Side Public License. Elastic says it’s unfair for cloud companies like AWS to provide a cloud service based on Elasticsearch for profit, but not contribute back. The result is that Elastic has made its open source project proprietary. Also, while the target is AWS, other service providers and companies may also be affected.
