L inus Torvalds announced the release of Linux 6.6, noting that there had been a moment when it seemed this development cycle might have a (relatively rare) -rc8 release candidate, due mostly to the (unusually large) size of the overall release. Linus appeared to be happier in the final week and thus came 6.6, right in time for Halloween. Spooky. Speaking of which, Linus did note the passing of 6.6-rc6 claiming “somebody made a musical video documentary about it all”, including a link to Iron Maiden’s Number of the Beast video.
“Setuid is used to allow an unprivileged user to do something they ordinarily wouldn’t be able to.”
Thorsten Leemhuis compiled his usual list of recent regressions, opening the roughly two-week merge window for Linux 6.7.
